Debbie Rouse Thayer was born and reared in Hamblen county. She served as a Medical Social worker in Wilson and Hamblen counties for 19 years. In 2002 she took the director's job at Senior Citizens center. She very much enjoys what she does at the center especially spending fun times with the seniors. She is married to Steve Thayer and they have 2 children and 4 grandchildren. In her free time she enjoys her grandchildren, riding the Goldwing Motorcycle and taking cruises.
Carol Collins, Asst Director
Carol came to work for the Senior Citizens Center as Assistant Director in 2012. She retired from Knox County Criminal Court after 15 years of service. Her responsibilities at the center are accounts payable and receivable clerk, input of all computer data pertaining to activities at the center, helping with all activities including bingo and luncheons, and covering for Debbie Thayer, Director, in her absence. Some of Carol's hobbies are hiking, theater and art.
Lois Seals, Reception
A native of Hamblen County, Lois was married to the late Jimmy Seals. Following her career at Anchor Brush, she worked at Morristown-Hamblen Hopspital for 5 years before before taking a position here in 2002. She is a mother, a grandmother and a great-grandmother.
Gerri Seals, Reception, Vital Visits Coordinator
Vital Visits /meal coordinator Gerri Seals is from Mooresburg. She claims she has a boring life, then the said, "NO! I have had a good life. I have had 3 boys and good jobs." She has worked at Kmart in Knoxville for 20 years back in the 70s and 80s then at Berkline, locally for 35 years where she retired in 2002 and could not give up working so she came to Senior Citizens in 2005. When pressed for what she does at Senior Citizens, she says, "Everything!" and she was answering the main phone when we talked. She says she enjoys listening to Blue-Grass music and working with Encore, Theatre Guild and Rose Center. She has been divorced for 35 years and her worst time in her life was losing her oldest son.
Ron Peterson, Maintenance
Ron, a Yankee for 64 years finally got smart and arrived in Morristown in 2003. He started volunteering at the center in 2008 providing computer support. In 2014 he joined the staff doing both driving and maintenance work. He has been providing tax assistance with the AARP taxaide program at the center since 2012.
