Evolution vs. Creationism

The main argument of creationists is their reference to the fact that the theory of creation can not be called a theological science, because it relies exclusively on information of natural sciences. The works of scientists-creationists meet completely all requirements of the scientific approach. At the same time they are convinced that the theory of creation not only meets the accumulated scientific data, but also explains them much better than the theory of evolution. However, both theories can not experimentally prove their initial postulates. Creationists are not able to reproduce in laboratory conditions the act of Earth creation, as it can be done only by God. On the other hand, the evolution proceeds so slowly that it absolutely can not be fixed in short intervals. Followers of these two theories are united by belief. Creationists believe in the original act of creation, evolutionists – in the gradual development of all living things. Here is presented a comparative analysis of these two theories based on some criteria.

1) The process of the universe creation and the origin of life on the Earth.

Evolutionary model is based on the principle of gradual variability and believes that life on Earth has reached a complex and highly organized state in the process of natural development. Creation model stands out the initial moment of creation, when the most important non-living and living systems have been created in a finished and perfect form.

2) Driving force.

Evolutionary model argues that the driving forces are the immutable laws of nature. Thanks to these laws, the genesis and improvement of living things occur. This also includes laws of biological evolutionary selection based on the struggle for survival of species. Creation model: assuming that the natural processes currently do not create the life, do not carry out formation of species and their improvement, creationists claim that all life was created supernaturally. This assumes the existence of the universe Higher Intelligence that can design and implement all the existing ones (Zimmerman 2011).

3) Driving forces and their manifestation in the present.

Evolutionary model: due to the immutability and sustained driving force, the natural laws that have created all living things, work even today. Being a derivative of their actions, evolution continues even today. Creation model: after the finish of creation act, the processes of creation changed for the conservation, sustaining the universe and ensuring the fulfillment of certain of its destination. Therefore, it is impossible to in the processes of creation and improvement in current outside world.

4) The ratio of the existing world order.

Evolutionary Model: currently existing world is initially in a state of chaos and disorder. With time and due to the action of natural laws, it becomes increasingly organized and sophisticated. Processes, proving the continued streamlining of the world, should occur at nowadays also. Creation model represents the world in an already established, complete form. Since the order was originally perfect, so it can’t become better, and must in time lose its perfection.

5) The time factors.

Evolutionary model: to bring the universe and life on Earth into a modern complex state through natural processes must have taken quite a long time, so evolutionist determine the age of the universe as 13.7 billion years, and the age of the Earth – 4.6 billion years old. Creation model: the world was created in an unbelievably short time. Because of this, creationists operate with far less numbers in determining the age of the Earth and life on it (Reiss 2009).

Question of the relationship between biblical stories and data of modern science has occupying the imagination of both, believers and atheists. Believers would like to reconcile religious and scientific point of view, despite their obvious differences, while atheists would like to find evidence in favor of either the Bible or science. The problem is that scientists mostly support the Darwinian Theory, but can not explain how the universe was created and why life began. Basic principles of evolutionary theory itself do not explain the diversity of species, nor their monotony, nor complication or simplification of organisms. At the same time, religious sources, interpreting the Bible literally mention that the world was created by God in six days. In recent years, there are made attempts to get scientific evidence for what is described in the Bible. Thus, none of the theories is enough powerful to bring to mankind a strong, bold idea that could spread as a kind of framework that unites all religions, nationalities and intellectual and philosophical trends in one.
